Community Service

Community Service relates to the various efforts that Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their club territory.  Particular emphasis is given to helping children, needy families, the aged, the disabled, and those most in need of assistance.  Community Service is the most visible of the four Avenues of Service because Rotary clubs are organized at the local level with members from the business and professional community who live and work in a community.

Rotary Club of Red Lodge contributes to the local community through annual and recurring activities:

Rotary Park

Rotary Park (formerly City Park) in Red Lodge was ushered in on July 22, 2004. Approximately 170 people turned out to enjoy a Pig-in-the-Park fundraiser. Rotary Park is adjacent to Rock Creek, a full and fast running creek. The project came about as part of the Rotary International Centennial Celebration. The Rotary Club of Red Lodge is responsible for installing and maintaining picnic tables and barbeque grills. Some of the improvement yet-to-come include restrooms and accessibility features.

Home of Champions Rodeo

The Red Lodge Rodeo dates back to the late 1890's with local cowboys getting together on a Sunday afternoon at the railroad stockyards to ride exhibition broncos. In 1954, after local cowboy Bill Linderman won his third World All Around Champion Title, the name "Home of Champions" was adopted. This PRCA Rodeo runs for three days each year; July 2,3, and 4.

The Rotary Club of Red Lodge provides volunteers who collect tickets and run the concessions at the Rodeo. The Rodeo Association pays the Club for their services. Those funds are used for college scholarships, donations to the local foodbank and for other community needs.

Participants choose from a 10K or 5K run or a 2-mile walk. There is a costume contest for participants and dogs, Toddler's Trot, music, free buffalo burgers and much, much more!

Christmas Stroll

The holiday spirit begins in Red Lodge on the first weekend in December with the Christmas Stroll. On Friday and Saturday nights, everyone strolls down Broadway to view the beautiful shops decked out in their holiday finery. Holiday food is everywhere. A unique Friday night Blade Parade features an assortment of snowplows decorated with holiday lights.

The Rotary Club of Red Lodge hands out free wassail to hearty souls gathering around a warming bonfire. The act of toasting and drinking wassail or mulled cider began centuries ago and is meant to wish good health and then, quite literally, consume the good health.

Highway 212 Cleanup

US Highway 212 Cleanup

The Rotary Club of Red Lodge adopted a 2-mile stretch of US Highway 212 about five miles north of Red Lodge for litter pick-up. Each spring and fall, Club members clean up along the 2-mile stretch. After the spring clean-up, members gather together for a picnic at Rotary Park.
